Calling talented Architecture students...?
The news is good. We have secured the majestic Florence Hall at the RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London for a 6 week exhibition kicking off in October. We have secured a team of highly skilled master’s students to help design and build the centrepiece ‘pavilion of protest’ manifested from metaphysical discontent at the exclusivity and hardship associated with studying architecture.
ZAP are looking for artwork rather than dry architectural drawings but can be as abstract/ montagey / line weighty / Texty as you want. The point being they’re all created by architecture students about how they feel about architectural education (can be the design of a ‘pavilion of protest’ or someone ‘drawing at a drawing board’ or else an oil painting of a very sad / happy face :( up to you). The deadline is 30th August 2011, so plenty of time to do a great piece. We have been approached by many passionate UK students offering to contribute so we feel a competition is the best arena for this exhibition, to both maximise the standard exhibited and also generate publicity. The climax will be the opening night of the exhibition with a 6 week viewing and the publicity generated will reach the architectural press. We are currently in talks with publishers about publishing the selected works in a ‘compendium of architectural defiance’.
